Kacang Puteh (pronounced “ka-chang pu-tay“), which translates to “white nuts,” is a beloved snack that has been an integral part of Singaporean culture for generations. In 1950s and 1960s Singapore, the sellers were typically immigrants from India and were affectionately called Kacang Puteh Men. He roamed the bustling streets, pushing his cart filled with an array of delectable, crispy, and roasted nuts and seeds. These crunchy morsels were a treat for both young and old, providing a glimpse into the city’s rich heritage.
