Samsui Women were Chinese immigrants who came to Singapore from as early as the 1930s. They worked as labourers in construction and industrial jobs to financially support their families back in China.
This Miniature Stories collectible figurine depicts the Samsui Woman inĀ a classic red headscarf and blue “samfoo” (blouse and trousers). She is having her lunch break at the work site, which typically consisted of a sparse homemade meal of rice and vegetables.
