Samsui Woman Eating Lunch (Figurine SH003)

SGD$61.00

Samsui Women were Chinese immigrants who came to Singapore from as early as the 1930s. They worked as labourers in construction and industrial jobs to financially support their families back in China.

Their work was especially in demand in Singapore during post-independence years, when the country embarked on rapid economic development.

This Miniature Stories collectible figurine depicts the Samsui Woman in a classic red headscarf and blue “samfoo” (blouse and trousers). She is having her lunch break at the work site, which typically consisted of a sparse homemade meal of rice and vegetables.
