Samsui Woman Carrying Bricks (Figurine SH001)

SGD$61.00

Samsui Women were Chinese immigrants who came to Singapore from as early as the 1930s. They worked as labourers in construction and industrial jobs to financially support their families back in China.

Their work was especially in demand in Singapore during post-independence years, when the country embarked on rapid economic development.

This Miniature Stories collectible figurine depicts the Samsui Woman in a classic red headscarf and blue “samfoo” (blouse and trousers). She is clearing baskets of bricks in a construction site by carrying them on a wooden stick braced on her shoulders.
